The 5 Absolute Best Fold Up Treadmills!

Why a Fold Up Treadmill?

We all know the benefits of owning a treadmill… you can run, no matter the weather outside, in the comfort of your living room, while watching the news, or motivational videos, or your favorite show on Netflix. That’s a given. But we can all agree that a treadmill in a living room is not exactly an art piece. It’s an eyesore. We’ve all seen perhaps the worst of it- the “clothes-rack treadmill”. Well, this is where the fold up treadmill comes in. You use it, and once you’ve finished using it, you fold it up, place it neatly in a more obscure area of your house, and you’re good!

In this article, we rank the five best fold up treadmills on the market. So you can have the best of both worlds – running in your living room, AND never being embarrassed to have visitors over ever again.

This treadmill is at the top because of quality, features, price, and of course ability to fold. The NordicTrack T 6.5 Si is an excellent treadmill, especially compared to other fold up treadmills. Other fold up treadmills have smaller motors, no ability to incline, and are louder.

This treadmill offers the ability to fold up (with a hydraulic system that helps you fold it) without making compromises in quality of running experience. The T6.5 Si provides a running experience comparable to one you would find at your local gym. It can incline up to 10%, has heart rate sensors, a 2.6 hp motor, and goes up to 10 mph.

One feature I love is the “flex select” cushion feature. It is great to have because there are days when you don’t want to train as if you were running on concrete; but when you do, you can turn it off and train your muscles and ligaments for harder surfaces. It also features a 10 inch touchscreen display that allows you to take part in “iFit” home interactive personal training, similar to Peletons’. You get this free for 12 months, after which you pay a monthly fee. If you’d like to learn more, TreadmillReviewGuru offers a great video review of this treadmill on their channel.

Bonus tip: If you do not want to sign up for iFit and give your credit card, hold down the iFit logo for 30 seconds to bypass the sign up!

The XTERRA Fitness TR150 Fold Up Treadmill is the best value there is for those looking for an affordable option. Treadmills are not cheap, and the TR150 delivers on a solid customer experience for the price. “TR” stands for trail running, although there is no way in which we see this treadmill prepare you for this type of running than others. This fold up treadmill is smaller than others, and this is especially noticeable in its width. Because of this, it feels somewhat claustrophobic when you first use it if you are accustomed to running on normal width treadmills. It is pretty to get used to, though.

On to some features: it has a 2.25 hp motor with a top speed of 10 mph. You can incline the treadmill, but it is a manual system with pins. It also folds up nicely with a manual system. Folded up, it occupies more space than others because it doesn’t lay flat. It stays standing, like the T 6.5 Si.

Bonus tip: If you turn it on and get an error code, make sure that the red safety pin is in!

The FYC Fold Up Treadmill has the smallest form factor of the bunch. It folds completely flat, to only five inches. This means that when you’re done using it, you can tuck it under your bed, or maybe even your couch! It comes at a fair price as well.

This treadmill doesn’t require any screws to install, so setup is easy. For the running experience itself, it’s pretty basic. You get a decent 2.5 hp motor, that will get you up to 7.6 mph. While that is enough for most, more serious runners will definitely need more. An interesting feature of the FYC fold up treadmill is that it allows you to use it in its “folded” state (with the handle bar tucked down), so you can walk as you work at a standing desk. This treadmill’s LCD display on the bottom, in front of the tread instead of on the handrail. I found this not ideal, because as you run, you are forced to look down towards your feet, which can be disorienting. However, it allows you to use the treadmill without the handrail and just the remote control. Pretty cool.

If you don’t mind compromising some features and speed for a treadmill that beats all the others when it comes to storage, this treadmill is the way to go.

The NordicTrack Commercial 1750 Treadmill is your choice if you want the best of the best and have the resources for it. This is a professional grade treadmill that has all the features that you could ask for. The quality of treadmill that NordicTrack made in the Commercial 1750 surprised me, especially with this fold up feature.

This treadmill has motorized incline, from -3% to 15%. It has a 3.75 hp motor that will get you to 12 mph, a hydraulic lift to assist you in folding, a 300lb user capacity, fans, speakers, adjustable cushioning, and a large, 22 inch screen. It has heart rate monitors and cup holders as well.

The overall running experience is the NordicTrack Commercial 1750 gives you is not like any other on this list. It is much larger, so you feel you have space to pump your arms and run a bit more freely. It is very sturdy and stable and gives you confidence. The iFit program is the same as the 6.5 Si and is free for 12 months as well. The folding design is like that of the 6.5 Si as well and doesn’t require you to do any heavy-lifting. Once folded, two wheels allow you to move it where you need. Overall, the 1750 offers the most features and will make you feel like you are at your favorite gym. Because of this, it is an excellent choice.

Bonus Tip: One of the few downsides is the ease of setting up. It is a heavy treadmill, and if you are having it delivered, think ahead about how you will install it in your house.

Last but not least, the ASUNA SpaceFlex from Sunny Health and Fitness.

It has unique vertical handles, which feel a lot more natural to me than horizontal handles. Why are they the only ones that do this? The overall design of the treadmill is my favorite part. It is pleasing to the eye; it looks sharp and well-built. The flat, thin, sleek touchscreen LCD panel contributes to the look.

It has a maximum of 2.5 hp, and 1.25 CHP, or continuous horsepower. This allows you to run up to 8 mph. The ASUNA has 12 automatic adjustable incline settings, from 3.2 degrees to 6 degrees. It’s a great feature to see at this price point. It is also quiet and sturdy. As for the folded form factor, the ASUNA is hard to beat. It folds flat like the FYC, although a bit thicker. If you want a great quality fold up treadmill that is better quality than the XTERRA, but don’t quite have the budget for a NordicTrack, this should be your choice.

That concludes the review and rankings! Check out our best running shoes for running on treadmills next!
